Provisional results and championship points from Round 7 of the 2023 EZI UP & Go Victorian Hill Climb Championship.
The final round of the EZIUP & GO Victorian Hill Climb Championship was held at Bryant Park on Sunday 27 August promoted by Victorian Mini Club. Cold but fine conditions greeted 76 competitors from as far away as Adelaide and Wodonga. The short track layout hadn't been used for a championship round before, so this presented a new challenge for all competitors.
While several championship classes are yet to be decided, competition was fierce amongst the traditionally fastest open wheelers at the pointy end of the field.
Greg Ackland in his Ninja G8 set the fastest time overall and a new lap record with a stunning 31.81 sec in his final run for the day. The previous record was set by Brett Hayward back in 2011.
Second fastest was Alan Foley in the RFOLEY formula libre with a best time of 33.85 followed by Mike Barker in his Hayward 06 just 0.1 sec behind with a 33.95
David Mahon in his Dallara Hyabusa F394 carefully collected more championship points by winning his class on the day with the time of 34.54 just behind Mike Barker.
This ensured that David scored sufficient championship points in five of the seven rounds to secure the 2023 championship trophy.
Chris Harwood, Chair of the Victorian Hill Climb Panel, said “Without the help of the volunteers these events don't happen. THANK YOU to all who helped”.
