HOW DO I GET STARTED

 

1. JOIN A CAMS AFFILIATED CAR CLUB

You need to be a member of a CAMS Affiliated Car Club in order to get a CAMS licence and compete. The following car clubs actively support hill climbing in Victoria.

2. CAMS LICENCE

A CAMS Level 2 Speed (L2S) is an entry level licence designed for you to access a range of disciplines and events.

A L2S licence is the minimum level licence required for competing at hill climbs, sprints, super sprints and regularity events.

.

The L2S licence is low cost and you don’t need to undergo formal test or assessments and is easy to apply for.

3. YOUR CAR

Getting your car ready for hill climbing is very easy, but there are a few things you need to do.

START IN THE NON-LOG BOOK CLASS

1. Install a fire extinguisher.

Any AS1841 fire extinguisher except AS1841.2 are acceptable.

These are available at most auto stores and department stores and cost around $30 – $40. All fire extinguishers are valid for 3 years from the date of manufacture, please check the date stamped on the extinguisher.

2. Know where your tow points are.

It is important for you to know where your vehicle tow points are.

When your ready to step up to a Championship Class you will need to get a CAMS Log Book. A CAMS Log book contains information about your vehicle and records its competition history.

Obtaining a CAMS Log Book is very easy, all you need to do is enter a round of the Victorian Hill Climb Championship as a Non-Log Book Car.

During the drivers briefing at the start of the day, you will be introduced to the person(s) who can walk you though the simple process.

4. APPAREL

What do you need to wear while competing?

.

1. Helmet

You are required to wear a helmet. Most helmets are accepted, including motorcycle type.  A helmet must comply any of the following standards:

AS1698

or SFI 24.1

or BS 6658-85 Type A, A/FR

or E22(with 03, 04 or 05 amendments)

or any A level Helmet listed in CAMS Schedule D – Apparel

Standard labels are found on the back of the helmet.

2. Clothing

You are required to wear clothing that covers from your  WRIST  to  NECK  to  ANKLE. Such as a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and/or a wool jumper and denim jeans. Clothing that is synthetic such as nylon or polyester is NOT acceptable.

3. Shoes

You are required to wear closed toe shoes with leather uppers.

Note: Frontal Head Restraints

Frontal Head Restraints, often refereed to as HANS, are NOT mandatory for Speed events such as Hill Climbs.

5. RACING NUMBERS

Racing numbers are used for timing and to identify cars whilst on the track.

1. Display racing number.

You need to have racing numbers that can be seen clearly on either side of you car. Acceptable methods of displaying numbers include:

Number Stickers, or

Numbers written on glass using removal glass pens / paint pens, or

Numbers printed on paper and stuck to the inside of the windows

2. Register your Racing Number.

Registering a number entitles you to the exclusive use of that number for the season.It is not mandatory to register a racing number for the Victorian Hill Climb Championship, if you elect not to register a number one will be allocated to you when you enter each round (most likely different for each round).

6. ENTER AN EVENT

You are now ready to enter your first Victorian Hill Climb Championship round.
